When we talk of standing out or how to stand out, we all have the deep drive to be different, to be special, to be respected, and to have people look up to us. We set expectations that are higher than our own individual capacities, which we often fail to meet.
The reality is, “standing out” is never an easy way of living in a world of mediocrity where everyone is trying too hard and doing too well at not being themselves only to be liked and embraced by others, and this is where the secret lies!
STAND OUT! Do what they aren’t doing, what they won’t do, and what they don’t want you to do!
Below are the 15 things you must do in order to stand out
BELIVE YOUR OPINIONS AND DECISIONS, BUT TAKE CORRECTIONS WHERE NECESSARY
There are so many things that could quickly piece a one-off. One of which is always going along with other people’s choices! Someone may not have to agree with you or that you made the correct decision. What counts is that you’ve identified what works for you and have chosen to stick with it. Maintain your independence at all times and refuse to be swayed! I’d like to incorporate a word that my high school principal (Regina Mundi Girls’ Secondary School) made us repeat every morning:
“I am a special and irreplaceable soul, and my vocation in life is also personal; therefore, I must not always obey the group!” This is also a source of inspiration for me.
This is the most critical move of all. What helps you stand out more than being special. As I previously said, there are now many too many people thriving on being something they are not. Let’s say they’ve been taken, but your true self is still eagerly waiting to be published, cherished, and admired! Then let it all hang out! Let people know who you really are, regardless of what they say or think of you. Keep them if they love you and who you are…if not, they should not be held as friends.
DO MORE OF WHAT YOU LOVE
Nothing is more amazing or satisfying than being recognized for being excellent at anything. It draws people to you and everyone wants to be associated with the best. Perfection is achieved through consistency. Offer your attention to whatever you want, whether it’s drawing, illustrating, painting, or soccer, as long as it’s constructive and making you happy! Develop it! It must be nurtured! Make one like it! After all, it is your talent, and it will become a job faster than you expect! You’ve always learned that if you find anything you like doing, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
MIND YOUR DRESSING
Never underestimate the importance of still looking fine! No, having good looks does not imply spending long hours in front of a mirror, fixing up every inch of your face, or squashing your neck striving to knot a tie at all times. Be tidy (check your hair, nails, body, and mouth), wear what flatters you, be chic, and stand out. This will keep you in people’s minds for a long time, get you recognized any time you pass, and make people love you as well as the desire to be connected with you! The greatest thing about dressing well and looking nice is that it boosts your morale. That sense of assurance pervades you because you know you look fine!
BE BRAVE AT HEART
Become your own kind of hero, and you’ll end up as other people’s Hero. Choose to lead rather than obey, speak out while some might rather be silent, withdraw when you feel unwelcome, respectfully disagree when you feel deceived, and, most notably, hold to your own convictions These factors, when combined, give you good leadership skills and attract people to you. Everyone wants to be around someone who can guide them in the right direction, teach them what to do when they are unsure, give them hints, guidance, and therapy, and encourage them to be the best they can be, and you can only demonstrate that you have these attributes by deciding to be BRAVE.
BROADEN YOUR INTELLECTUAL HORIZON
Strive to know more, learn more, learn more, be inquisitive, adventurous, do new stuff, and go outside your comfort zone. Set small targets for yourself. You automatically stand out if you know a little bit better than your teammates, friends, or random strangers! When you speak, you prick people’s ears to listen, making them curious about you and wanting to learn more about you. But wait a minute! You will draw “haters” as well, but that’s okay because “you don’t see them.” This should be your frame of mind.
ALWAYS STAY WITH PEOPLE GREATER THAN YOU IN AGE AND KNOWLEDGE
pending more time with older people allows you to tap into their experience, which is at its best for me! The sense of freedom distinguishes you, and you tend to behave older than your age group. When it comes to those who usually encourage you, they recommend that if you want to be better, make friends with the great!
They must not be customers who are outrageously out of the price range, for example. What about Oprah? Look about you; there must be someone(s) that you believe hold the attributes that drew you to them. Spend more time with them and aspire to imitate their optimistic characteristics in your everyday life. Just don’t be clingy! Nobody likes clingy people.
WATCH YOUR CIRCLE
This is just as important as No. 1. Check-in on your mates and make a nice slash! The harsh reality is that most friends are afraid to “change.” When they see a difference in you, such as when you stopped going out with them, stopped sitting to gossip with them, stopped drinking/smoking/clubbing, or stopped doing whatever you all used to do, it becomes a big challenge, and they would despise you for it. Don’t be afraid! Tell them it’s about you, not them, and that if they can’t do it, they don’t deserve to be in your business. Remove their limbs! Often, keep in mind that not all of your mates can be dragged along with you on your way up.
TRY TO BE KIND
This is about the cutest and most distinct personality trait of someone who stands out in a crowd: they choose to be kind! Those little acts of kindness will undoubtedly keep you on people’s minds for the rest of their lives. Do it and it is something that other people will not do. Do it because it is something that everybody overlooks or does not feel obligated to do. Do it because you have a true conscience, not because you want to win or get a reward. Such acts of kindness make you stand out in a crowd, bring you luck, and make people look up to you!
DONT FORGET TO BE POLITE ALSO:
At all times, respond softly and politely. There are now far too many people who are “winning” at being uncultured; be one of the few who can leave people with something positive to mind. Esteem and politeness are never out of style! Say thank you when you are helped, give cheerful compliments to brighten people’s days, pick up a neighbor’s fallen thing, remind people how good they are at what they do, and so on. The point remains that being respectful would make you stand out!
ALWAYS BE READY TO SERVE
Still answer gently and respectfully. There are far too many people who are “good” at being uncultured; be one of the few who can leave people with a better impression. Esteem and politeness never go out of style! Say thank you when you are helped, offer cheerful compliments to brighten people’s days, pick up a neighbor’s dropped object, tell people how good they are at what they do, and so on. The point is that being polite would help you stand out!
LEAD WITH EXCELLENCE
Let people know that quality is a key principle of yours and that you do it with excellence. Leading with excellence prepares you to achieve high-quality results and distinguishes you as a specialist.
CULTIVATE THE ACT OF LISTENING
Learn to pay attention. To really listen is to strive for profound insight and to hear what is being said beyond the words. You can stand out in any circumstance if you learn to listen with your ears.
DONT LET EVERYTHING BE JUST ABOUT YOU
Few things are more boring than a conceited person. When you meet somebody, make the talk about them rather than about yourself. Be interested and engaged; ask questions and pay close attention.
It has nothing to do with ego, but rather with a self-assurance that elevates the interactions with everyone else. You’ll stand out by being humble but content with yourself.
